European Respiratory society is inviting applications for ERS/EU RESPIRE 2 Postdoctoral Research Fellowships. These are co-funded by the European Union (EU) under the PEOPLE Marie Curie Actions COFUND programme of the EU’s Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7). Fellowships are offered for researchers to carry out advanced research projects (24 months) of scientific excellence in the area of respiratory medicine and science in a European country other than the candidate’s own, within a certified RESPIRE 2 Host Centre. Fellowships are open to all nationalities. The application deadline is 31st October 2014.

RESPIRE 2 covers and welcomes all disciplines of respiratory science/medicine and beyond to domains incl. immunology, modelling and systems biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biophysics, mathematics, engineering, etc.
-The proposed research should be cutting-edge science and have high impact to the broad domain of respiratory science, while serving the goal of promoting the ERS Roadmap and efforts on chronic disease across all disciplines. Eligibility: Candidates must meet each of the following three conditions:
-Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (S.C. 2001, c. 27). Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada must demonstrate, at the time of submission of their application, that they have obtained a Québec Selection Certificate and that a permanent resident application has been submitted to the appropriate authorities. However, to receive the scholarship, the applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada and be domiciled in Québec for at least one year. Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada are required to confirm citizenship or resident 3 status before financial support can begin. If the applicant is unable to obtain citizenship or resident status before March 1 of the year following the offer of financial support, the scholarship will be cancelled;
-Be domiciled in Québec for at least six months. The FRQNT reserves the right to verify that this condition has been met;
-Be resident of Québec within the meaning of Article 5 of the Health Insurance Act (CQLR, c. A-29) and the Regulation respecting eligibility and registration of persons in respect of the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec. (CQLR, c. A-29 and CQLR, c. A-29, r.
-Persons who maintain their Quebec resident status within the meaning of the Quebec health Insurance Act (L.R.Q.c.A-29) and who live outside Quebec solely for thepurpose of continuing their studies, are deemed to be living in Quebec.
-Persons who do not maintain their Quebec resident status and who have been living outside Quebec for fewer than two years after having, for at least five years, been domiciled in Quebec and having been residents within the meaning the Quebec Health Insurance Act, are exempt from residence requirements.
-Candidates who become FRQNT scholarship holders must meet citizenship and residence requirements for the duration of the scholarship.
Minimum grade point average:
-Candidates for a Master’s program scholarship in transportation (A4), energy (A7) or aerospace (A8) must have a high grade point average (3.55) or the equivalent for their undergraduate degree. Candidates whose average is less than the required grade point average are not eligible. Candidates may consult the equivalency table for minimum grade point average Table of equivalence for the minimum average.
-In the case of candidates who are changing careers, grades from degrees unrelated to the program of study for which the scholarship is being sought are not considered. However, a degree used as the basis for admission to a Master’s or Doctoral program is deemed to be relevant. Transcripts for these grades must be enclosed with the file.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada and be domiciled in Québec for at least one year.

Scholarship Description: The purpose of Research Fund of Quebec - Nature and Technology (FRQNT) scholarship programs is to foster student interest in research and to financially assist the best candidates in undertaking or continuing a Master’s or Doctoral’s program in natural science, mathematics or engineering research.

Duration of award(s): A candidate is eligible for the Master’s research scholarships competition during the first six sessions of his/her Master’s degree (or the equivalent). The sessions 3completed in a Master’s program (or the equivalent) prior to the effective date of the scholarship will be deducted from the duration of the funding. No funding will be ranted after a student’s sixth session in a Master’s program. A candidate is eligible for the Doctoral research scholarships competition during the first nine sessions of his/her Doctoral degree (or the equivalent). The sessions followed in a Doctoral program (or the equivalent) prior to the effective date of the scholarship will be deducted from the duration of the funding. No funding will be granted after a student’s ninth session in a Doctoral program.

What does it cover? The maximum value of Master’s scholarships is $15,000 for a period of 12 months. The scholarship holder may receive a maximum of six instalments totalling $30,000 within the eligibility period (six sessions or 24 months). Each installment of a maximum of $5,000 covers a period of four months, or one session. The maximum value of Doctoral scholarships is $20,000 for a period of 12 months. The scholarship holder may receive a maximum of nine instalments totalling $60,000 within the eligibility period (nine sessions or 36 months). Each installment of a maximum of $6,667 covers a period of four months, or one session.

Selection Criteria: Applications are evaluated based on the following criteria and weighting:
-Excellence of university record- 12 points (masters) 6 points (doctoral)
-Aptitude for research and relevant research experience, where applicable- 6 points (masters) 8 points (doctoral)
-Scientific quality and interest of the research project- No project requested (masters) 4 points (doctoral)
-Social implication, leadership and communication skills- 2 points (masters) 2 points (doctoral)

Notification: By the end of April, the FRQNT transmits its decision to candidates through their e-file. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that their address is updated. Candidates are informed of the classification of their file and may then print the letter of decision.

How to Apply: Applicants may not submit simultaneous applications for a Masters research scholarship (B1) and a Re-entering the research community scholarship (A2); Applicants may not submit simultaneous applications for a Doctoral research scholarship (B2) and a Re-entering the research community scholarship (A2). A candidate must have a personal identification number (PIN) in order to fill out the form. The application form you are required to complete and send electronically by October 2nd, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the latest is available only on the FRQNT Web site. Social Entrepreneurship Accelerator Exchange is an intensive program of social entrepreneurship for young innovators to solve surrounding social issues in their community. It brings together aspiring change makers from different countries to Algeria, in order to give young Algerian passionate innovators the right tools to kick-start their own ventures. The participants will spend one week of intensive, professional courses and workshops with the qualified trainers, and hopefully unlock their change making ideas, team building, project realization and many other skills are to be gained during the program. The closing of the program will be a competition to choose the best social innovative idea. The project’s vision is to spread the knowledge about social entrepreneurship among the Algerian youth, to engage them in the society in a creative way according to their thoughts and ideas and introduce them to international social entrepreneurship. The program is committed to widen young people’s positive impact in the society and encourage new initiatives in social entrepreneurship.

The project is open for all European citizens aged between 20 – 25 who have deep understanding about social entrepreneurship, experience in the field, and want to be exposed to Algerian culture.

The organizers with support of the sponsors will cover all expenses during the training except the flight tickets. There is no participation fee.

Admit it, most of us want to live like the cast of The Only Way Is Essex (TOWIE), especially when they bring their designer heels, gravity-defying bikinis and vajazzled ummm...parts...to Marbella. The vibe at La Sala changes from around midnight, where the music is ramped up and the drinks are free flowing.

To continue on the party, the TOWIE cast never misses a night partying at Aqwa Mist, located directly underneath La Sala so it’s the perfect place to head after your dinner has gone down. It has the ultimate in VIP touches, including a waterfall feature entrance, revolving disco ball DJ booth, state-of-the-art sound system and even a private Super VIP room equipped with its own rock pool Jacuzzi! Very Essex dahling! You may even catch a glimpse of other celebrities whilst you are there, as they often hold concerts throughout the summer months, so you really will be brushing your shoulders with the elite.

El Gran Gatsby is another favourite eatery of the cast, with stunning panoramic views over Puerto Banus from their back terrace, where you can gaze at the million pound super-yachts as you devour their fine cuisine. There’s a selection of light bites if you only want a small snack, or you can choose from oak charcoal grilled meats or the freshest fish dishes.

After filling your bellies, head straight upstairs to Pangea, with its luxury open air terrace and a party vibe lasting long into the night. Buy drinks at the bar orprebook bottles to ensure you’ve never got an empty glass. Its cool plush décor, white leather seats and uninterrupted views of Puerto Banus really makes you feel like a star!

Whilst you're in Puerto Banus, the way to really live like a star is to hire a luxury yacht for the afternoon. Imagine the heads turning as you sail out on the Meditteranean Seas on your own private charter with a group of your mates, sipping champagne and indulging on delicious canapes...

Tibu Banus is another locale that the cast of TOWIE ensures is on their list of venues to visit. Located on the main Antonio Banderas Square, you’ll never miss it, as there’s usually a queue of people wanting to get in from midnight. Recently renovated to the highest standards, Tibu offers many areas to enjoy; our favourite is the cool open-air terrace area, great for cooling down on those hot summer nights. This is the ultimate in glamour and sophistication, and is another one where prebooking bottles is a great idea.

So there you have it, the ultimate guide to living life like the elite. We would recommend going to La Sala and Aqwa Mist on the Thursday night, then on the Friday heading to El Gran Gatsby for some fantastic grub and then onto Sintillate at Pangea upstairs. Saturday would be good to hire a luxury yacht for the afternoon and then head another Sintillate event at Tibu in the evening, and then on the Sunday, relax, or party even harder, at a beach club.
